Recognizing the opportunities offered by object oriented multimedia compression algorithms (specifically MPEG-4), we have developed an MPEG-4 Streaming System that provides a flexible platform for developing internet capable streaming media applications. Our research efforts have been concentrated in the following directions:
The MPEG-4 Streaming Server operates ideally on the WinNT,Win98 and Win2000 platforms.
For more information on MPEG-4 and the DMIF layer, please visit the www.cselt.it/mpeg/ web site. This site provides many useful pointers to MPEG-4 related web resources. For further information about MPEG-4 tools visit our links site.

November 30, 2001:
Additional information on how to use IM1 with our Streaming System is found in this document : m7668.htm ( Implementation of MPEG-4 DMIF Remote Retrieval Instance and Streaming Server, Contribution document sent to the 58th MPEG meeting).
July 11, 2001:
The source code of our MPEG-4 Streaming Server is now downloadable through IM1 ftp site (password protected). Look under UBC directory in IM1 folder.
May 29, 2001 :
You can find more information about our systems (remote retrieval and broadcast scenarios) in our paper that has been published in the 11th Packet Video workshop (PV2001) : "MPEG-4 streaming over IP and Broadcast Networks: DMIF based architectures" (pdf).
March 6, 2001:
The source code of our MPEG-4 streaming server has been contributed to IM1 and will become available to MPEG-4 community.

February 21, 2001:
The first version of our MPEG-4 Broadcast Server has been released
Download Server Executable Here
The Source code for "DMIF instance for Broadcast" has also been released, to download the code please see the download instructions below.
February 15, 2001:
A new version of our MPEG-4 Streaming Server (Remote Access) has been released.
This version of the Server has been tested with IM1-2D 5.3 and our DMIF remote retrieval instance.
A graphical tool for monitoring outgoing traffic has been added to the server, Using the new user Interface, the user will also be able to set a few control parameters that allow for:
1. Controlling the outgoing rate by randomly dropping a percentage of media packets.
2. Controlling the fast-start technique parameters to fit client's media buffer size.
The only software module available on this site is the implementation of DMIF Instance for Remote Retrieval. Click here to be redirected to the download page. The server source code is not provided in this site.
To get our Server Source code and IM1 client application source code please refer to the IM1 ftp site or MPEG official site. These sites are password protected.
If you have access to MPEG Username and Password follow this link: "MPEG members only". But if you don't have access to IM1 software or site, you won't be able to download the Server source code.
Please send any enquiries or comments to either : yasserp@interchange.ubc.ca or Kambiz@interchange.ubc.ca.

Installation Instructions:
MPEG-4 Streaming Server
|
|
Note: The server requires some windows DLL's that are available with an installation of Visual C++ 6.0 ( you can download them here), otherwise it may not work. Also ensure that the registry keys have been added by running the 'registry entries' file. |
